Now I want to be able to set the row of the file that is specified with io.open. So it really comes down to what sort of effort you want to put into your work and how many additional doodads do you find worthy of your interest. This is what I'm trying to do: io.open("_Equivalent-Exchange_/config/a", "r") My understanding is that most mods that work with one will work with both. However once you get there, feature-wise, you are mostly on par with what you could have done in CC. Open Computers is more for the "I built a computer in Minecraft" folk, even though it's still a far abstraction from actually building a working there is still a lot more work involved in just getting a working machine. My impressions are that a large portion of that group aren't really interested in the mod itself as much as the ability to take pre-created scripts and load them with minimal fuss. Of the two, CC has a large following among the crowd who are more interested in using it to provide functionality which is missing or difficult to implement via other mods, such as touchscreen interfaces or advanced automation. It's default recipes are extremely cheap and uncomplicated so that a player just starting a world could get in and start messing with Lua immediately. It is not at all balanced for 'survival' based play and as such is far easier to get up and running. Open computers makes it realistic.ĬomputerCraft was originally (and mostly still is) a mod focused on teaching people how to program. Tldr: computer craft makes automation trivial. The Open computer devs have a short series on YouTube that will get you mostly started. Open computers has gotten a lot better, but computer craft is still better. Building a GUI is much harder in Open Computers. Open computers requires you to find/code a lot of support yourself. IMO, Computer craft is easier because of all the built in libraries. Open computers requires you to think about the infrastructure and band with. Computer craft making networking trivial. The user has to know the basics of where files are located on an OS, and how a computer works. In Open computers, you need to have power. Connection to the internet to get other scripts is a given. It requires no power, and the user does not really need to have any operating system knowledge. In Open computers, you need to make different parts to customize your computer's capabilities. You can get a fully capable turtle or PC extremely easily.
